Hey everyone!
It’s officially been a month since The Starving Freelancer hit the shelves and it’s been so much fun! Just thought I’d steal a few moments of your time to let you know how it’s going.
Marketing is hard
Since this is my first self-published title, I’m learning as I go when it comes to marketing. I’m currently exploring a new marketing technique each month so that I can track my progress from month to month and see what’s working and what’s not.
I plan on publishing several books, so this is also research for the future, too!
What I learned in June
June was focused on learning the ropes of KDP and taking a look at their programs to see what was going to work for me. The goal was to have a few ideas ready for July and August so that I can put them into action in each month and see how sales progress.
As far as June’s marketing itself, I kept it pretty simple by doing a “soft release.” All I did was tell you, my lovely subscribers, and then post about it on my social media feeds.
July’s plan
Now that I have the right information to start from, I can actually get into the marketing for this month. For the moment I’m still working excluisvely with Amazon Kindle, since this is as good a starting point as any!
As of today the Kindle edition of my book is enrolled in Kindle Unlimited which means that more eyes will see it and hopefully give it a read! The goal of enrolling in this program is not to make sales (it is available for free to anyone who is registered in the KU program). The main concept is to help get more attention and encourage interested readers to read and review the book!
A sale is coming
One of my priorities this month is to put my book on a free promotion, which is possible now that I’m enrolled in Kindle Direct (the author side of Kindle Unlimited). I’ll share an update with you on that as soon as I have those dates set so that anyone who is interested can get the book for free!
I’m coordinating my free book promotion with book promotor services so that I can get as much exposure as possible. Right now my favourites include:
BookBub
Fussy Librarian
eReader News
If anyone has any other recommendations, please let me know!
That’s all for now but keep an eye out for my next newsletter since that will have the free book promotion dates!
Great marketing strategies. It will be interesting to see how KU works out for you.
